The QuickTime 7 upgrade wipes out your Quicktime 6 Pro without notice or permission. Latest mac os sierra 10.12 iso download. Here's how Apple customer service told me to get it back: Previous versions of QuickTime, including a reinstaller for QuickTime 6, are available from Apple's QuickTime support page. robg adds: This reinstaller only works in 10.3.9; 10.4 requires QuickTime 7.

I just drug a copy of Quicktime-6 to the applications folder from my backup and all the pro features were intact. If I don't need the pro features I use Quicktime-7, if I do, I launch Quicktime-6.
If you have a backup, no need for a reinstall..at least for me..I have the best of both worlds.

Thanks, dragging my backed up copy of Quicktime 6.5.2 Pro to the applications folder running 10.3.9 works great! I appended 6.5.2 to the QuickTime app name before dragging it to my regular drive.
How to download a microsoft application on mac. Managed to install quicktime 6 from the download on the support page.
had to use Pacifist to extact the .app bundle from the package.
Seems work just fine with the all pro features enabled :-)

Apple moved the installer for QT6, I ahve not found it yet. their description about how the key changed from 6 to 7 is here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301521
I think Apple should offer a discounted upgrade path for those of us who bought Pro for 6, rather than shell out a full 30 for a new key to get same function in 7.

Ummm..
When I upgraded my QT 7 Pro on 10.4 to QT 7.0.1, I DID receive an explict warning I would need to purchase a new key and that my old key was now bunk. It asked my permission and warned me before I executed the upgrade.

Find a recent SerialBox and grab the QT Pro key from there. That's how mine is Pro authorized—albeit illicitly, but since you purchased a Pro key in the first place, there would be nothing at all wrong with you grabbing it from there.

Huh? You *are* kidding, right? I guess this is where my mileage varies -- I purchased a QT6 Pro license around a year ago, and I wish I had a QT7 Pro license now, but I'm not going to steal one.

I lost all Pro functionality, and had to buy a new key.
The above poster is the only one I've heard of who was warned.
Odd.

..when I did the initial upgrade to 10.4. However, I WAS warned when I Software Updated to QT 7.0.1 (though it was in tiny print and you had to select QT 7.0.1 in the list to see the warning). Fortunately I saw the hint about keeping your QT 6 app somewhere, so I've still got Pro functionality available.
I also recieved several warnings before installing QT 7.0
(I hate to put a 'me too' post but I just wanted to add some weight to the fact that there were warnings.)

You are not alone. I was warned in the same fashion using Software Update.app. And not just warned once, actually, I believe it was three times.

When I installed QuickTime 7.0 in 10.3.9 the installer gave THREE explicit warnings that my version 6 pro key would not be valid. First the readme file (which the installer itself displays) clearly stated that QT 7 requires a new pro key; next a dialog box appeared indicating that my current pro key would be invalidated if I continued, which I had to acknowledge with an 'OK'; finally, just before the real installation began, there was an 'are you sure?' message that I had to answer yes to before my QT 6 pro installation was replaced. From my perspective, not only was there warning given and permission asked, the point was absolutely driven into the ground.
As for Tiger and 7.0.1, I cannot say as I had already purchased a QT 7 pro license by the time I moved to 10.4.

I have upgraded to QT Pro 7 (on Tiger) but encounter a complete crash of QuickTime when I use a certain codec.
I have a licence of Sorenson Video Pro 3
http://sorensonmedia.com/solutions/prod/sv3_win.php
Now - when I select the 'Watermark' tab in 'Options' QuickTime CRASHES repeatedly. This happens on my G5 2x2 and on my PB 12. I reported this to Apple and to Sorenson but no feedback at all.
This is pretty annoying because it means I have to start-up from my Tiger backup to encode videos with watermarks (what I always do).
This might be an esotheric problem that does not interest many but I must say the Sorenson support really sucks! They did not reply to any of my three bug reports at all.
Any ideas or tips. Who is to contact to get this fixed? It might be a Sorenson codec problem or a QuickTime flaw.

You may have been warned during your install, but during my upgrade from Panther to Tiger, there were no such active warnings displayed about nuking my QTime 6 Pro key.

I kept the QuicktimePlayer.app from my 10.3.9 install in a different folder, and when I upgraded to 10.4, I could run the old 6.5.2 player with Pro functionality, at least with 10.4 and then upgrading to 10.4.1 -- so the app still works.
If you're already on 10.4, and need to get hold of the app, you should be able to extract it from the QuickTime installer manually using a tool such as Pacifist, or extract it yourself from the installer archive.

This is helpful. However, I am not yet ready to move to Tiger. I am in OS 10.3.9. I have QT 6.5.2 Pro. I am about to move up to QT 7 but I want to keep 6 available as well. All on one machine - still in OS 10.3.9.
Any how to install tips? Thanks.

Can QuickTime Play AVI Files?
How To Download Quicktime 10.3 To Mac Os
AVI is on the list of QuickTime supported video formats. But this is only limited to the AVI with Motion JPEG video. You will encounter various codec problems when playing AVI on Mac as follows:
How To Download Quicktime 10.3 To Mac Catalina
1. If you get the message 'filename .avi file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available.' You shall understand AVI, in fact, is a kind of container format, which can be compressed by a number of codecs, including MJPEG, MPEG-4, MPEG-3, MPEG-1, MPEG-H etc. QuickTime can't play AVI video compressed with MPEG-4, MPEG-HD etc other than Motion JPEG video.
2. QuickTime can't play AVI file with audio sound. QT does not recognize the audio in this video because the audio codec is not supported by QuickTime.
3. Some users reported that QuickTime no longer played AVI file after having updated to new Mac OS X. The installed codec or Perian are the issues that cause AVI file not playing on QT. Perian may not be compatible with the new OS you upgraded to.

Note: macOS will soon no longer be able to run 32-bit programs. This means QuickTime Pro 7 won't run fine on the new OS after Mojave. You have to find a replacement to play the video or convert AVI video to MP4 format that other portable devices accept.
